Complete Evaluation |
Whether or not you are a candidate for hearing aids, an audiological evaluation is a good idea. Thorough audiological evaluation involves testing for both hearing sensitivity and the ability to understand speech. This is the basis of all hearing testing. Other testing includes tympanometry, which checks the movement of your tympanic membrane(eardrum) and other “immitance” measures, which can provide other useful information about the auditory system.
Pediatrics
We love seeing children as well as adults at Auditory Services. All children should have a hearing test.
We routinely do pediatric testing. This sometimes utilizes methods which are different from testing adults. Pediatric testing often involves the use of animated figures in the test booth, “play audiometry” and testing of “otoacoustic emissions”. If you have been involved with the birth of a baby in the past several years, you may have witnessed otoacoustic emissions testing in the hospital, when the baby received a check of hearing before being discharged.
When a child needs hearing aids…..
We have over twenty years of experience selecting and fitting children with hearing aids. Children have unique needs and consideration when using hearing aids. Children’s lives revolve around playing, learning and family. Making sure the hearing impaired child is prepared to experience and enjoy all of these aspects of life is the goal of pediatrics in audiology. In addition to well chosen and properly fit hearing aids, this often involves the use of supplemental systems such as “FM” systems, advances which keep kids connected with all the latest technology.
